Mike Daisey/This American Life fiasco is the same story as author of A Million Little Pieces/Oprah. All parties benefited from the publicity and the interviewers made a good show out of their outrage, that could’ve been prevented with a little pre-show fact-checking. PT Barnum said it best (or at least it is attributed to him): a sucker is born every minute. We are the suckers for taking the standard-bearers seriously.
